A building that stood near Davis Park for decades is not longer there.
The City of Rockford demolished the Tapco building earlier this year, and the construction is almost finished. The soil is now being checked for pollution to make sure remediation has been done.
For now, the city has no plans to build anything on the site, but that could change.
"It could be used for, you know, commercial property, it could be used for an extension of Davis Park, it could be something that goes through RAVE, and at that point if there's opportunities that come down the road, then that's what we're going to address at that time," City of Rockford Public Works Director Tim Hanson said.
Hanson says the city still has a little work left to do at the site, like adding dirt and seeding the area.
