Man found guilty of attempted robbery of a Rockford Citgo

A sixty-year-old man will face jail time after being found guilty of attempted armed robbery.

Franklin Freeman was found guilty on November 28 after a jury trial. He tried to rob the manager of the Auburn Street Citgo gas station on April 11, 2011, while armed with a knife. Gas station customers witnessed Freeman's attempt and chased him and held him until police were able to arrive.

A sentencing date has been set for January 3, 2013. Due to his prior record, Freeman is eligible for Class X sentencing of six to thirty years in prison followed by three years of mandatory supervised release.
