State parks could get a boost from a $2 license plate fee approved by the Illinois Senate.
The fee is part of a plan to pay off a backlog of $750 million for park maintenance and repairs. The measure was put before the Senate once before, in June, but it failed. However, it passed 39 to 11 during the vote on Wednesday.
The measure's next destination is the desk of Governor Pat Quinn, who has previously indicated his support for the bill.
