Going Green: Recycling holiday lights - WREX.com – Rockford’s News Leader

Almost everyone has thrown out old and broken strings of holiday lights, but tossing them in the trash is not your only option for their disposal.

The Ogle County Solid Waste Management Department is encouraging residents to recycle their lights this year. The agency will take Italian mini-lights, traditional lights (with larger glass bulbs), rope lights, LED lights, and other similar string lights. They will also accept extension cords, but garland, live greens and wreaths, and other decorations will not be accepted.

You can drop off your lights at the following locations through February 2, 2013:

• Ogle County Solid Waste Management Department - 909 West Pines Road, Oregon
• Ogle County Courthouse - 105 South Fifth Street, Oregon
• Byron Fire Department - 123 North Franklin Street, Byron
• Rochelle Fire Department - 401 Fifth Avenue, Rochelle
• Mount Morris Fire Department - 15 East Center Street, Mount Morris
• Stillman Valley Fire Department - 200 South Rural Street, Stillman Valley
• Forreston Village Hall - 102 South Walnut Street, Forreston
• Village of Davis Junction - 207 North Elm Street, Davis Junction

All proceeds received from recycling the lights will be donated to the United Way in Ogle County.
