Motor vehicle crash fatalities dropped 63 percent compared to last year over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Illinois Department of Transportation reported three motor vehicle fatalities and two crashes over the four-day weekend, down from eight fatalities and seven crashes in 2011.
"Illinois has made significant progress in recent years to improve traffic safety and reduce fatalities on Illinois roadways, and the Thanksgiving holiday weekend was no exception," Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann L. Schneider said.
The data covers the period between 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, to midnight on Sunday, November 25.
