Powerball Jackpot reaches $500,000,000

Someone could end their week with a significantly larger bank account thanks to the Powerball.

The jackpot reached $500,000,000 on Tuesday, the largest prize ever offered in the Powerball game. If just one person wins, it will be the largest prize ever given out by a Lottery.

Wednesday's drawing is almost here and tickets are selling quickly. Between 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m., over $200,000 in Powerball tickets were sold in Illinois, and the pace is expected to increase leading up to the drawing.

The Mega Millions game reached the highest-ever Lottery jackpot in March with $656 million. Merle Butler from Red Bud, Illinois shared that prize with two other people from other parts of the country.

The current cash value of the jackpot is $327 million after $229 million is withheld. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1:175,000,000.
