Midtown District celebrates holidays with City Sidewalks event

The First Annual City Sidewalks on 7th Street begins at noon on Friday.

Rockford's midtown businesses and other community organizations are decorating their storefronts with holiday themes such as the Night Before Christmas, a Nativity Scene, Kwanzaa, and Snow Queen, among others.

Santa will make an appearance at Katie's Cup on Friday from noon to 3 p.m. and at the Just Goods store on Saturday. Spoken word artist Christopher Sims will be performing on Saturday at Katie's Cup.

City Sidewalks is a piloted community-based project with the goal of beautifying the area and increasing community participation. Participating businesses include Benson Stone, Centennial Church, Christensen Funeral Home and Crematory, Colorlab Cosmetics, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Just Goods, Katie's Cup, Midtown District Association, Orchid Neighborhood Group, Nicholson's Hardware, and Rockford Urban Ministries.

The window displays will be up through December.
