SwedishAmerican Hospital starts capital improvement projects

The first of several capital improvement projects at SwedishAmerican Hospital are beginning.

The projects include relocating the Respiratory Therapy department from the eighth to the second floor, renovating the eighth floor to accommodate the Pediatrics and OB/GYN departments which are moving from the third floor, renovating the third floor to accommodate all-private rooms for the Mother/Baby unit, and putting a new Critical Decision Unit on the second floor.

Those projects total $2.3 million and will take place throughout 2013. Along with relocating those departments, the hospital is also planning $3.1 million in improvements to the Surgery department. Equipment in all of the operating room suites will be upgraded and replaced beginning next year. That project is expected to take two years.

The hospital says the goal of the projects is to enhance patient care, employee satisfaction, and customer service.
