Rockford firefighters responded to 2945 9th Street around 3:00 a.m. Monday morning for a fire that was reported by a neighbor.
Flames and smoke were showing from the rear of the home when the first firefighters arrived. Those firefighters attacked the exterior of the home first, before moving inside. No victims were found.
The blaze was brought under control within a half hour, with an estimated $5,000 in damage to the structure and $500 to a garage nearby. Firefighters remained on the scene for two hours to complete operations.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
