Two Rockford radio stations and the Salvation Army are teaming up to honor the memory of a long-time volunteer while feeding area residents in need.
The Feed the Need Food Drive will benefit the Salvation Army's Food for the Needy Program. It is being held by Maverick Media's 104.9FM and 100.5 NTA-FM and the Salvation Army in honor of volunteer Norma Baker. Baker devoted most of her life to the Salvation Army and passed away earlier this year.
"We are excited to be doing this again and more excited to do this in memory of Norma," Operations Manager and morning co-host at Maverick, Jim Stone, said. "We hope to fill 30 barrels, and with our listeners' help, we can do that! Our on-air talent volunteers their time over the weekend the broadcast live and we hope that our listeners respond and donate to the Salvation Army."
The drive began Friday, November 16, and will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday in the parking lot of Woodman's.
