The Boone County Historical Society is about to get a little bit bigger.
After ten years of raising money, the historical society broke ground on a new expansion project on Friday. The project will join two existing Belvidere buildings to create a larger space for exhibits and displays.
"The expansion will be beneficial to the Belvidere and surrounding areas in many ways," board member Jack Wolf said. "It will offer unique historical displays for students or anyone interested in learning more about American history and local history."
Work begins this month and is expected to finish by late spring or early summer. For more information on the historical society, visit their website at www.bchmuseum.org.
