Posted:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- An Albuquerque man who admitted to having child pornography on his computer has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Robert W. Schmidt was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque.

A year ago, the 56-year-old Schmidt had pleaded guilty to transportation of child pornography.

Schmidt admitted in federal court to having more than 1,200 images of child pornography on his computer.

Authorities say a maintenance worker at Schmidt's apartment complex saw child pornographic images on Schmidt's computer while doing an emergency repair at his place.

Schmidt also admitted to bringing child pornography across state lines when he moved to New Mexico in June 2010 from Rockford, Ill.
