Golden Apple nominees are recognized

Over 400 teachers make this year's list of Golden Apple nominees.

They were all recognized at the Golden Apple Nominee Reception.  Teachers from over 50 local schools learned more about what it means to be a nominee, and what they need to do if they wish to proceed with the nomination.  Those that wish to continue the selection process will need to complete a self-reflective portfolio and gather letters of recommendation.

John Paddock, English teacher at Belvidere North High School, says he's been nominated before but never went through with the process.

"It's always an honor and it's always a nice thing to know that students or maybe somebody you work with goes out of their way and really appreciates what you do and you're making a difference in somebody's life."

After a review of the portfolios, 20 semi-finalists will be chosen in December.
