Man injured in San Jose nightclub incident dies in ICU

A 26-year-old Rockford man is dead after a car accident police believe was related to a shooting outside the San Jose night club on November 4.

Police responded to the club that night after a fight broke out. While police were on the scene, a car drove by, shooting at the crowd. That car crashed. Police responded shortly afterward to another car crash in the 4400 block of Central Terrace.

All three occupants of that vehicle had significant injuries. One, who had been shot at the night club, later died. Another occupant of that vehicle, C.L. Phillips, sustained blunt trauma to the head in the crash. He was not shot.

Phillips was pronounced dead in the Intensive Care Unit at SwedishAmerican Hospital. He was pronounced brain dead on November 11, and had remained on life support pending organ donation.

Toxicology tests were performed at the hospital, but the results are currently unavailable.
