A long-time volunteer and retired nurse have teamed up to donate a very special quilt to the SwedishAmerican Center for Women.
Ardene Friest has contributed almost 14,700 hours of service at the hospital and Carol Swenson is the retired SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center director. The two women collaborated on a quilt that has pieces dating back to the late 1930s.
Friest began piecing some of the elements featured in the quilt in the late 1930s and early 1940s while Swenson pieced the "paths" between the quilt's flowers and also did all of the quilting.
"We are proud to receive this special quilt," SwedishAmerican Health System President and CEO Dr. Bill Gorski said. "This gift, made in Ardene's honor, reflects her commitment and dedication to nursing, health care, and SwedishAmerican. I would also like to thank Carol for her many years of service and leadership at SwedishAmerican."
The quilt will be permanently displayed at the Center for Women's Breast Health Center.
