The RiverHawks acquired left-handed starter Jon Gulbransen from the Gary Southshore RailCats (independent, American Association) for pitcher Kyle Lindquist Monday.
"Gulbransen gives us another strong presence in our starting rotation," said manager Rich Austin. "He had good succes in the American Association last year and we look forward to him having the same kind of success next year with us."
In 10 starts for the RailCats last season, Gulbransen had a 4-1 record and an ERA of 3.14. Gulbransen also proved to be efficient on the mound, recording a strikeout to walk ratio of nearly 3:1 and gave up just under three walks per nine innings in 2012.
Before joining the RailCats, the 5-foot-11, Appleton, Wis., native pitched in 17 games for the Great Falls Voyagers (Rookie League, Chicago White Sox) in 2011 after completing his collegiate career at Valparaiso University.
In return for Gulbransen, the RailCats receive right-handed pitcher Kyle Lindquist. Lindquist appeared in 11 games for the RiverHawks in 2012, starting two. The right-hander had a 0-1 record with an ERA of 5.46 in his rookie season.
"Kyle [Lindquist] did well for his first pro season and we wish him continued success in Gary," Austin said.
