ROCKFORD (WREX) -

The average price per gallon of gas in the Rockford area has risen 6.8 cents over the last week, according to RockfordGasPrices.com.

The local average is $3.39 per gallon. The national average is $3.46, after a 3.2 cent decrease in price over the last week.

Local prices were 10.3 cents lower on Sunday than they were on year ago and 36.3 cents lower than one month ago. The national average is 32.6 cents lower than one month ago and 3.1 cents higher than one year ago.

"The national average has again decreased in the last week, but the decreases are beginning to slow down," GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said. "Wholesale gasoline prices rose strongly on Friday which could send prices higher in states with among the lower prices in the United States."
