District administrators, leaders with the local teachers' union, and community members collaborated to make a bid for $10 million in federal funding for District 205.
There are 15 national Race to the Top grant awards available and if Rockford wins one, it will have resources for a complete rollout of College and Career Academies for its traditional high schools.
The final application for the funding was approved and signed by Board of Education President Harmon Mitchell, Rockford Education Association President Dawn Granath, and Interim Superintendent Dr. Robert Willis.
If District 205 receives the grant, committees consisting of teachers, members of the community, and administrators will come up with strategies for proposed reforms.
