UPDATE: Volunteer searchers uncover new evidence as they look for a missing Machesney Park woman who never made it home Monday night.  Investigators say with all that has been discovered over the last five days they are worried about Katrina Smith's welfare.

Police say smith, has been staying in Roscoe, but stopped by her home in Machesney Park Monday night.  She left around 9 p.m. to run some errands and that was the last time anyone saw her.

"This is heartbreaking and we'll do anything to get her back," says Paige Smith, Katrina's stepdaughter.

Paige and her sister Devan rushed home from college after they realized their step-mother had disappeared.

Tuesday, police found Katrina's car near Obispo Road and Ventura Boulevard.  Over the next few days they found her purse and cell phone.  It prompted Katrina's family and friends to a bigger search.

Detectives gave searchers instructions before sending them out this morning.

"To go back and forth with your foot in the leaves, to see if you see anything out of place, anything that looks new or if something has been there for a really long time and they actually had us go through sections," says Rosa Salinas who help organize the search and started the Facebook page FindKatrinaSmith.

Dozens of people combed the area near Schoonmaker Park by Ralston road and the Rock River.  Police confirmed searchers found some paper towels with blood on them, but adds there's still a lot of investigation ahead.

"I believe in staying positive. I believe in being patient and hoping for the best but its hard sometimes, not knowing what could have happened," says Paige Smith.

"If you know anything and you aren't coming forward with it just imagine if it was one of your loved ones and you didn't know where they were or what had happened to them. They would want somebody to come forward," says Devan Smith, Katrina's stepdaughter.

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department says detectives have been working around the clock on this.  It's still not classified as anything more than a serious missing person's case.

Anyone with information on Katrina Smith's disappearance is asked to call the Winnebago County Sheriff's Police Detective Bureau (815) 319-6400 or CrimeStoppers 815-963-STOP.
