Several Illinois Democrats speak out against Governor Pat Quinn's plan to close seven correctional facilities.
At least five lawmakers or legislative candidates say they do not want Governor Pat Quinn to close Tamms and Dwight prisons, plus three halfway houses and two youth centers. Quinn cut funding for the facilities last spring, arguing they were overcrowded. Opposing lawmakers say closures will only make the system more dangerous. The legislature will meet next month to discuss the issue.
