Local fall lovers can get in the spirit of the season while helping to fight a fatal disease.
Starting on October 13, for every carving pumpkin sold at Curran's Orchard this month, $1 will be donated to the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund. Visitors can either take a hayride to the pumpkin patch and pick their own, or choose a pre-picked pumpkin at the apple barn.
"It's a good cause," Owner Patrick Curran said. "It'll raise the awareness of this dreadful disease."
The orchard is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day, but it opens at 7 a.m. on Fridays so people can grab donuts on their way to work. Curran's will end its season the first weekend of December.
Curran's is located at 6385 Kilburn Avenue in Rockford.
