New recruits at the Rockford Fire Department got some hands-on training this week fighting house and car fires.
The activities are all a part of the daily training for new firefighters. The recruits' experience on the job ranges from brand new to up to eight years, but all of them get something out of the everyday challenges.
"There's a science behind everything," new recruit Fernando Reyes, who used to deliver construction supplies, said. "There's a lot more behind the scenes then what it looks, so just learning all the skills that are needed and putting everything together."
The recruits train every day for three and a half months.
