Machesney Park teen attending Presidential Inaugural Conference


A 16-year-old Machesney Park student is asking for the community's help in getting him to Washington D.C.

Abraham Herrera was chosen to attend to the five-day 2013 Presidential Inaugural Conference. There, he'll learn what tactics and strategies political experts use to win campaigns, hear speeches from Condoleezza Rice and General Wesley Clark, and witness the Presidential Inauguration.

"The conference will make me a more responsible citizen and will also instill key leadership skills in me," Herrera says. "I hope to one day become a political leader; this trip is a great way to learn."

Herrera is a member of the National Honor Society. a student council member, and is enrolled in Rock Valley's Upward Bound Program. He also serves on the Superintendent Advisory Council and participated in the YMCA's intern challenge.

The cost to attend the conference is over $3,000. A fund has been set up in his name through the YMCA of Rock River Valley. To help send him to the Presidential Inaugural Conference, call 815-489-3352 to make a donation.
