Almost 4,000 District 205 pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students are banding together with kids across the country in an effort to set a record by reading.
The children read the book Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad by David Soman and Jacky Davis and tried to break the record for the most children reading the same book on the same day. Some schools read the book in Spanish as well.
"It's fun to put the effort in, it's fun to think that you're going to make a record doing something that's enjoyable for the kids and very important," Maud E. Johnson Kindergarten Teacher Lisa Nowack said.
Kids from Spring Creek, Carlson, Barbour, Fairview, Dennis, Gregory, Rolling Green, Cherry Valley, and Johnson schools all took part.
Schools across the country tried for the record last year as well, but did not achieve it.
