It's a family affair for this week's honored teacher. Manchester Elementary's Shannon Hyser was surprised with our Teacher of the Week honor by not only her students, but her fiancé, parents, and sister as well.
Miss hyser was definitely caught off guard and embarrassed, in a good way, when her entire family, administrative staff, and I barged into her room during her reading activity. Her fiancé, Matt, even took some time off work to be there for it.
"She's a very hard worker," says Matt Eaton, Miss Hyser's fiancé. "She's very determined. She really loves what she does. It really stands out. You know she's always working at home, working on lesson plans and everything for the next day, making sure the kids learn and still have a good time."
Miss Hyser is known for her creative activities, like her reading stations and homemade green eggs and ham during her Dr. Seus unit.
And yes, the students eat them, well, sort of.
"I had some pukers," Miss Hyser laughs. "But most of them tried it."
Even though it's only Miss Hyser's second year of teaching, Principal Crawford says she's a pro. Since she was a substitute for a long time at Manchester before she got the job permanently.

"Everybody just needs to know how much time she puts into planning activities that the kids love and are truly involved in," Principal Crawford says. "She's just an all around outstanding teacher."
And the kids do love her. When I was in the class, they couldn't stop hugging her when she won the award.
"We have a lot of requests for Miss Hyser," Crawford says. "Very much so."
