Safe Havens grant to set up visitation center in Winnebago County

ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Non-custodial parents in Winnebago County will soon have a place to meet with their children thanks to a $400,000 Safe Havens grant.

The grant was given to Winnebago County by the Office on Violence Against Women at the Department of Justice. The money will help to build a supervised visitation center for parents without custody and their children.

"There's a real need in Winnebago County to provide services to families where there's family violence, and to the children to help keep them safe, and to establish a relationship with their parents," Judge Rosemary Collins said.

Winnebago County competed with cities and counties across the country to receive the grant.
