UPDATED: 20 Bypass fatal traffic crash

According to Illinois State Police, a 60-year-old Cherry Valley man is dead after rear-ending a 2006 White Mack Truck Tractor pulling a Dorsey semi-trailer with his 2002 Gray Chevy Tahoe just before 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Road work in the area was slowing traffic to about 25 miles per hour.  The Mack truck slowed with traffic and the Chevy rear-ended the semi-trailer.

After rear-ending, the Chevy immediately became engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Mack truck, Dean E. Fisher, 54, of Bushnell, Illinois has been transported to a local hospital.

The cause of this accident is still under investigation by Illinois State Police District 16, it is unknown if the drivers were wearing seatbelts.  There are no charges as of this time.

A crash on Bypass 20 is causing traffic to back up and forcing people to detour.

According to Illinois State Police District 16, a serious accident involving at least two vehicles occurred just before 4:00 p.m. on the Bypass about one mile west of Alpine. Police are detouring vehicles heading east at 11th Street. Drivers are being told they can take Sandy Hollow and get back on the bypass at Alpine.

The bypass going east will be shut down for several hours between 11th Street and Alpine.
