October marks energy awareness month and the Illinois Renewable Energy Association is taking action with a series of workshops. This Saturday, October 6th will be all about powering your home with solar energy.
The Vogl residence is 1 of 5 sites in Ogle County to show the public how solar panels work. Visitors will also learn the many benefits to the environment, your bank account and sense of security.
Sonia Vogl says, "We produce about 2/3 of what we use so it's cut back the electric bills; And another really big benefit is we have our own electricity. If the grid ever goes down or we're disconnected, we still have electricity…"
October 13th there will be a hands-on small wind workshop. October 20th there will be a hoop house workshop; And the last of the series on October 27th has a food preservation theme.
Workshops are held at 1230 E. Honey Creek Rd. in Oregon, IL. To register or for more information head to http://www.illinoisrenew.org/ or email sonia@essex1.com.
