Winnebago County lays to rest one of their own. Jeremie Kobler did not just work for his community. He also served his country.
Kobler worked as a sergeant in the Winnebago County Jail since 1995. He also served for more than 15 years in the Air National Guard. His mother says he loved the United States Air Force and being a member of its security police. He served three tours of duty in the Middle East including Iraq. Kobler left the military and married his wife, a Winnebago County Sheriff Deputy. Kobler's family says the call to serve was always in their brother.
"He was there for the underdog. If somebody was being picked on he was there to lift them up, he was there to defend them," says Matt Kobler.
"Since he was little he always wanted to help where he could and give a helping hand and like Matt said, help the underdog, help the people who couldn't help themselves and he was very selfless and wanted to do what he could for the family, the country," says Jason Kobler.
He died Wednesday in a motorcycle crash. Kobler was 39-years-old. Besides leaving behind a wife he also had twins that had just turned one-years-old.
