McHenry County Sheriff's deputies trying to serve a warrant on a suspect end up in a standoff with him on Saturday.
Deputies served a warrant on Edward Bolen, 49, of Marengo, for domestic battery around noon at 2905 Northwest Road. Bolen is accused of pointing a gun at them, prompting deputies to fire shots at him, but they did not hit him. During the gunfire Bolen ran into the basement and locked himself in.
At this point the McHenry County Sheriff's SWAT team was called in. When they went into the basement Bolen pulled out a knife. SWAT team members were then able to shoot him with bean bag rounds and take him into custody.
Illinois State Police is investigating the incident.
Bolen is charged with Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapon, Possession of Firearm Without a FOID, and Possession of Ammunition Without a FOID.
