Winnebago County's Bomb Squad was called to a man's home when his plans to make a model rocket backfired.
Officers found materials to make a pipe bomb at 130 West Hononegah Road in Roscoe. The man explained he was attempting to make and test fuel for a model rocket from instructions he found on the Internet. During the test the material exploded and the man was injured. He was treated and released from a local hospital for lacerations to his forehead and arms.
A spokesman for the Sheriff's Department says this was not a malicious attempt to make a bomb and no charges are being filed.
