Rockford's mayor ready to run again

Posted: Updated:
ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey made his plans to run for office again official Thursday evening.

Mayor Morrissey says the work during his first two terms hasn't been easy, but he calls it an honor to serve the city. He says his personal life has changed as much as the city has since 2005. He vows to keep moving on things like infrastructure projects, downtown partnerships, and an education network throughout the city.

Since Morrissey's an independent candidate, he doesn't have to run in a primary, but he needs more signatures than a major party candidate. His campaign's goal is 2,500.

Democratic candidate Jim Hughes announced his plans to run for Rockford mayor this summer.

The 2013 consolidated election will be held on April 9.
