The Rockford region's unemployment rate drops more than two full points, but it's still the worst metro area in the state.
That metro number is 11.7 percent for August. It was 13.8 percent last August. That's based on a 3,000 job increase. Illinois is 8.9 percent. The U.S. is 8.2 percent.
Broken down by county, Winnebago and Boone, which make up the metro area, were 12 percent and 10.3 percent. Ogle County was 11 percent. Stephenson County is 9.9 percent.
City statistics show Rockford at 13.7 percent. Belvidere at 11.7 percent. Freeport at 11.6 percent. Those are all major year-over-year improvements.
