With a near unanimous vote, Winnebago County Board members approve a spending plan for 2013. The vote was 24 to 2, with one person absent. The board's newest member, Joe Terrell, abstained. He was sworn in just moments before the vote.
The budget is $182 million. Back in 2008, that number was $220 million. County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen calls this a bi-partisan plan that serves the public well. He also adds, the tax levy is $1 less than last year.
Christiansen gives credit to managers, elected officials, and employees for getting through on a much leaner budget than in the past.
