A Rockford man is dead after rear ending a car with his motorcycle.
Illinois State Police say Jeremie Kobler, 39, was traveling south on Illinois Route 70 when he crashed into a white Kia Rio standing at the Meridian Road intersection. This happened a little after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.
Kobler did not have a helmet on and was pronounced dead at the scene. The person in the car, Douglas Schroder, 48, of Rockford, was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.
Police say alcohol is not a factor in this accident.
Winnebago County turned the investigation over to Illinois State Police because Kobler was a sergeant in the Winnebago County Jail. Sheriff Dick Meyers says, "His fellow workers and friends are very saddened by this loss. He was a father of 2 young kids, twins, who just turned a year old a week ago. So we're very saddened by this tragic event."
Kobler started as a corrections officer in 1995.
