Posted: Updated:

Youth basketball teams get to show off their skills and learn about violence prevention today at the Patriots Gateway Center.

The tournament was presented by the Safety Net, it's a prevention initiative aimed at stopping crime, bullies, and teaching conflict resolution. Organizers say using basketball is a great way to get the message out to kids.

"We are promoting community involvement and violence prevention is what safety networks targets. So, we're just trying to get kids to give something they're passionate about like basketball and integrate that into violence prevention efforts," said Youth Programs Coordinator Carlie Bates.

The top performing teams this afternoon took home 1st and 2nd place trophies for their performance.
