Winnebago County Republicans consider who will represent District 8 for the next 2 months.
The County Board seat was former held by John Cabello, who left the job for an Illinois House of Representatives appointment. Republicans say they have reviewed paperwork of the one candidate who has applied and they expect to send a recommendation to Board Chairman Scott Christiansen this weekend.
WCRCC Chairman James Thompson says they were worried about how many people would apply, since it is such a short term, "but we wanted to follow the same procedure as we had in the past."
The deadline for candidates was earlier this week. Cabello was appointed to the seat and is essentially an incumbent against Democrat opponent Carl Wasco.
