The Rock River Valley YMCA looks to head in a new direction - literally.
The Y is considering leasing what used to be an AT&T store on South Perryville Road and opening a "Cherry Valley Express YMCA"
CEO Mike Brown calls it a way for the Y to deliver its message to a new part of town.
"We're in 75% divorce nationwide, we have financial stress, we have kids without dads this is a place where people come together."
Brown believes one of the key selling points of the Express YMCA is that they're a family facility and provide services most gyms can't, plus memberships allow people to use every Y without an extra charge.
"If there's an express YMCA nearby you can do your daily routine and if you want pools or other facilities you can use those on the weekends or when you have time."
Businesses near the proposed site say they welcome the facility and any additional customers it might bring.
"I think it would be really cool to have a bunch of families coming in and out of this area I think it would definitely boost up this side of town and get people more involved in this area," said Alejandro Ibarra with Cost Cutters
"If they do move in I sure hope it moves up our business and bring new faces and new clientele into the area," said Banducci's Pizza employee Joseph Cirone.
For the Y, this express facility could lead to bigger things in Cherry Valley.
"An express type YMCA would open the door in the future for a full facility YMCA once we secure funding
The Y's Executive Board and Finance Committee would have to agree on terms to lease the building. Brown hopes to have the facility open by December to catch all the people getting healthy for their New Year's Resolution.
