Homeless students in District 205 could have the chance to start the school year off with a fresh new look with your help.
The Salvation Army's Clothes for Kids Drive ends at 5:00 p.m. this Sunday, August 19, at Cherryvale Mall. The drive hopes to give all 900 homeless students in District 205 a brand new outfit for their first day of school. Donors can either give monetary donations to go toward new clothing, or they can pick up a list of clothes needed, buy the items, and return them to the display in the mall's center court.
"We want the start of the new school year to be great for all students. Providing a new outfit for a homeless student, can make a world of difference and help set the tone for success," County Coordinator for the Salvation Army, Major Randy Hellstrom, said. He added, "Clothing and monetary donations to date will allow us to provide a new back-to-school outfit for 240 students, leaving 660 more homeless students to clothe. Please help us assist these children in starting the school year with confidence."
Monetary donations, with "Clothes for Kids" in the memo line, may also be mailed to The Salvation Army of Winnebago County, P.O. Box 4159, Rockford, IL 61110.
