Suspect arrested in Hilander bank robbery

A 29-year-old man has been arrested for robbing the BMO Harris Bank located inside the Rural Street Hilander.

Officers responded to the store around 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Upon arrival, officers were told that the suspect fled the scene in a blue pick up truck. That truck was found a short time later in the 700 block of North Highland with the interior on fire. The fire was extinguished by an officer and the truck had been recently reported stolen.

According to police, the suspect had fled from the truck in a tan Buick or Oldsmobile. That car was located and a short chase ensued. Police lost the car in the area of 11th Street and 23rd Avenue but it was found a short time later in a garage in the 1100 block of 21st Place. The suspect, Michael O. Fryer, was found in a home in the same block.

Fryer was arrested by police on an unrelated arrest warrant and was later charged with Armed Robbery and Aggravated Robbery. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, Rockford Police are not officially releasing a photo of Fryer.
