Illinois lawmakers are gearing up to discuss pension reform during a special session called by Governor Pat Quinn.
The session will take place Friday in Springfield and Governor Quinn is hoping for a complete overhaul of the state pension system. Some lawmakers, however, are backing more scaled-down changes for pensions.
State workers are concerned about any potential cuts and what effects they could have on their retirement benefits. Some state workers have even retired earlier than planned in an effort to keep their current plans locked in.
Governor Quinn has expressed faith in lawmakers' ability to resolve the matter in one day, but other lawmakers argue that it is not enough time to fully discuss the issue.
