Madison, WI hospital will open new facility in Rockford

Posted: Updated:

A hospital in Madison, Wisconsin will close off its branch on East State Street, but open another location less than 2 miles away.

The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital announced it'll opening a new, expanded community-based outpatient clinic at 816 Featherstone Road this fall. The $8 million clinic will be double the space at the clinic's present Rockford location. 7,700 patients use the East State Street facility, and they've been notified of the opening date over the past several weeks. To make the transition process from the State Street site to the new facility go smoothly, the clinic at the present location will continue operating through September 12th. It will then close the 13th to allow equipment and furnishings to be moved to the new facility. Once the installation of equipment, furnishings, and clinic supplies is finished, the Featherstone Rd. clinic will be open for business at 8 a.m. September 17th. The new office will continue providing primary care outpatient services to enrolled veterans, but there are some additions, like basic radiology services, expanding telehealth and mental health services. Also, the facility will eventually expand lab services available in Rockford.

The present Rockford clinic saw about 8,000 veterans last year, but there are approximately 40,000 veterans living in Winnebago County and the four other Illinois counties a part of the Madison VA Hospital's primary service area.
