An area actor turned writer finds success with his independent thriller film.
Stuart Wahlin started shooting "Hand of Glory" back in 2011. The drama, which has mystical elements, was set entirely in Rockford and Belvidere with a mostly local cast. It premiered in Chicago earlier this year and has since picked up a few awards at other film festivals. Wahlin says he plans to keep entering the movie in festivals through the end of the year, then distribute DVDs.
Funds from those sales will go toward Wahlin's next project, "Slay Utterly". That will be another drama based on century-old Midwestern murders.
