Park District cuts deal with mall and renames park

Posted: Updated:

A play area for kids will be re-done, and a Rockford area park is re-named.

That's what the Rockford Park District agreed on at Tuesday's meeting. Board members voted "Yes" on a 7 year contract with CherryVale Mall to sponsor the mall's indoor playground near the lower level by Sears. The Park District will pay about $15,000 every year, for exclusive naming rights, and to replace play equipment.

The board's other action changes the name of Harlem Community Park to "Wentland Sports Complex". That's in honor of Stanley Wentland Sr.. He and his family have made significant contributions to the facility, and to the Harlem Community Center.
