Tonight marks the end of another summer favorite. The last five days has been full of excitement at the Boone County Fair, but tonight, all of that comes to an end.
Rainy weather did not keep fairgoers away tonight, as they tried to squeeze in as much as they could before the gates close, until next year.
And everyone seems to have a fair favorite:
"I'd definitely see the demo tonight,so that's one thing I'd like to see," said Andrea Deserto of Marengo.
Richard Pierce of Capron says his favorite part of the fair is "having my grandchildren enjoy the fair, watching their smiling faces with the animals or the rides, or whatever they're doing at that moment."
Even though the fair is still going strong right now, behind the scenes, cleaning up the 152 acres takes as much planning as it did putting it together
"Well right now we're loading all the livestock, and have a pretty good system," said Tom Ratcliffe, Fair Board Director. "So it's a pretty smooth operation. They just started at four o'clock."
Between the rides, the food, and the animals, it's hard to think that in 12 hours, this entire park will be empty.
Next year marks the 50th year of the Boone county fair at it's current location. So what big plans do fair organizers have for the big anniversary?
"we'll start tomorrow, planning that," said Ratcliffe.
About 175,000 people got a chance to visit fair this year. Weather may have played a role in the
Slightly lower attendance from previous years.
