A Golden Apple Outstanding Principal Award-winner has been recommended for the job of Director of Fine Arts by the Rockford Public School District.
Lu Ann Widergren will be recommended for the job at net Tuesday's School Board meeting. Widergren was principal of Brookview Elementary School and previously served as the district's Fine Arts coordinator from 2001 to 2006.
In her new role, Widergren will assess data in districts arts curriculum, leadership development, and oversee a partnership between District 205 and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
"My end goal is that students have great learning experiences in the arts so they can apply lifelong skills and appreciation in their own quality of life," Widergren said.
The position has been upgraded from assistant principal to director as part of the district's expansion of fine arts programs. Widergren would make $90,000 a year in the position.
