The boyfriend of Kathleen Savio took the stand Friday in the murder trial against Savio's husband Drew Peterson.
Steve Maniaci, who began dating Savio around the time she and Peterson were getting a divorce, testified that he didn't see any bruises on her body three days before she was found dead on March 1, 2004. Savio's body was discovered in her bathtub with a gash on her head and several dark red marks. Prosecutors are using the testimony in an effort to convince jurors that Savio's death was not accidental.
Maniaci also testified that once he had been notified of Savio's death, he drove to her home and saw Peterson standing by the street near crowds of onlookers. He said he told Peterson, "I sure hope you didn't have anything to do with this," and Peterson replied that he did not.
Peterson was charged with Savio's death after the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson. He has pleaded not guilty.
