ROCKFORD (WREX) - As communities across the country mark the 29th Annual National Night Out, there are many options around here so you can find one close to home.
The purpose of these events is simple: to come together as a community and send a powerful message against crime.
Tonight from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Rockford will host a celebration at Churchill Park, at the corner of 8th Avenue and 16th Street. There will be activities, a chance to meet your neighbors, and visits from local leaders and members of the police and fire departments. There will be K-9 and Bomb Squad robot demonstrations, as well as food, contests, and live music.
In Belvidere, the celebration is at Four Seasons. A parade starts at 5:30 at the intersection of Pearl St. and Seasons Parkway in Belvidere and continues through the Four Seasons community to the Pool Park located on Park Ave. There will also be entertainment, food, and visits from many area leaders. Those special guests include Belvidere Mayor Fred Brereton, State's Attorney Michelle Courier, several Belvidere City Aldermen as well as representatives from the police and fire departments, and McGruff, the crime fighting dog.
Beloit's festivities start at 5:30pm tonight, at North Street between 9th and 10th Street.
In Machesney Park, the party goes from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Machesney Crossings Shopping Center at the southeast corner of IL 251 & 173.
Many other communities also have events, or you can arrange your own with your neighbors. Click here for more information.
