One year anniversary of Beloit teen's disappearance

Posted: Updated:

No one's seen or heard from Bilial Hammette, since August 6th 2011. But, people closest to him aren't giving up.

"They say that the longer somebody is missing, that it just doesn't look good. I just choose not to believe that." -says Bilial's mother Lorrie Hammette.

Friends and family meet at a Beloit Park for music, food, and togetherness, in light of this year-long search. And the gathering would continue into the night.

"We're going to do a silent prayer, and a candlelight vigil. We want to keep his disappearance fresh in everybody's minds." -adds Hammette.

Almost everyone sports a T-shirt, made in Bilial's honor. His loved ones use social media, and #WHERESBILIAL, to spread the word.

"We're all actively on Twitter, as many youths are these days, and it's basically to just get a full awareness to everyone." -says Bilial's friend Trace Thayer.

Police officers were present, showing support. Investigators do have some information and leads, but can't reveal them, because it's an on-going case. Bilial's supporters have a similar message to anyone with information.

"Don't be afraid to speak up, even if it's 'I saw him at a gas station,' anything is better than nothing." -says friend Rhonda Melby.

"They just need to speak up, we need him home." -says Bilial's best friend Jenna-Kay Wehmeyer.

"If you've got a conscience, you've got to be able to say something. He's somebody's friend, somebody's brother, my child. Say something." -adds Hammette.

If you're of any help to this case, call the Beloit Police Department at (608) 364-6801, or try Beloit Crime Stoppers at (608) 362-7463.
