Just three-tenths of a second kept a pair of DeKalb twins from winning an Olympic medal. Their fans at Rockford's YMCA Rowing Club watched it all go down. They called it a heartbreaking loss but an amazing effort for the James brothers and Team USA.
Grant and Ross James did not even take up the sport of rowing until they were in college. They made the Olympic team this year for the men's eight. Their boat finished fourth just behind the British team. Germany ended up taking gold. Canada got silver. Despite the fourth place finish everyone at the rowing club say the men have a lot to be proud of.
"They really kicked it in the end and you could tell they were giving their all so I mean you can't really ask for anything else," says Lizzy Chiodini, Junior Rowing Club member.
"It was a little frustrating when you saw them and you're like come on you've gotten this far you know you can do it and you saw how close they were. And if it was just a few more meters they would've gotten it," says Elaina Weickert, Junior Rowing Club member.
"Obviously we learn from them and their technique and watch them and see the things that they did well and learn from that," says Nick Brown, Junior Rowing Club member.
Besides the junior members, there were also some people with Olympic and U.S. Rowing team connections at the watch party. Tune into 13 News at 5 & 6 Thursday to hear from them.
